In Her Web She Still Delights

Sizing

I'm most of the way through the foot of my first sock from New Pathways for Sock Knitters, and I am starting to have serious doubts; it seems to be too big, though my judgement of how much too big varies from "just slightly" to "hugely", depending on whether I've tried it on my foot lately.  I'm not clear on how it manages to be too big, seeing as I measured my gauge with the same yarn and the same needles--precisely the same needles, even, not just the same size--and measured my foot according to specs and followed all the tables in the book and so forth.  Perhaps it'll be better once the heel is on, since that seems to add quite a bit less length than in conventional sock patterns and extra width can be sucked into length when required--one of the things that makes knitting good for socks and such in the first place.  I sincerely hope it works out, anyway, since I want a pair of the Coriolis pattern (currently doing Riverbed) and redoing all my math would be a pain.
