I've been thinking about what to line my prospective grey wool winter skirt with, and it's just become blindinly obvious what I should use. My problems were twofold: one, the wool is quite scratchy and I need something that will protect me from that (especially at the waist) and two, I wanted bright red for the contrast--not that anyone's going to be seeing the lining much, but...well, I still can't remember the name of the Japanese fashion movement that was all based on dull exteriors and bright linings and details, but there was one. And I like the idea.
Problem is, the first thing that sprang to mind when I thought of soft, bright-colored lining material was silk, but it'd be an amazing pain in the ass to find a) silk b) in the correct color c) heavy enough and d) at a price I could afford. Not to mention the amount of static that would be generated by such a combination. So I've been sort of sitting on the wool, trying to think about it. And today the correct answer presented itself: cotton flannel. It's heavy enough and soft enough, comes in all sorts of bright colors, and is pretty cheap. If I buy one of the lighter weight varieites it won't add too much bulk, and it'll make the whole thing warmer. This weekend: off to JoAnn's!
